We have studied living anionic polymerization of n-hexyl isocyanate (HIC) using novel initiators such as sodium naphthalenide (Na-Naph), sodium diphenylmethane (Na-DPM), sodium benzanilide (Na-BA), sodium deoxybenzoin (Na-DB). We designed new initiators, sodium peroxide (Na-PO) and sodium benzhydrol (Na-BH). In this study, The Na-BH plays both roles in initiating monomers and preventing side reaction for living polymerization of HIC as one directional propagation. The controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained by the living anionic polymerization. In Na-PO initiator system, however, mechanism is somewhat different. We found that the Na-PO doesn’t protect the growing chain end because they don’t form clusters, thus it acts as only initiators and it’s initiating efficiency is 100 %. |
