Molecular layer deposition of 3-d organic networks on the solid surface with nanopores |

A new solution-based molecular layer deposition method (MLD) was studied. Multi-functional molecules with high rigidity were employed in the MLD process. Alternating deposition of two tetra-functional, tetrahedral molecules gave nanometer thick films of three-dimensionally cross-linked organic molecular networks. Varying the number of deposition cycles enables to control the film thickness precisely on the molecular level. Porous membrane substrates were employed as the supports for the MLD process. The morphology of films was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performance of the membrane fabricated by MLD was studied for their permeation rate and rejection.
