S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM) is a critical regulator of cell growth, differentiation, function and survival. Recently, the result that SAM had affected both morphological differentiation and secondary metabolism of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) and Streptomyces lividans had been reported. Comparative proteomic analysis using 2-D gel electrophoresis followed by mass spectrometer in Streptomyces coelicolor is performed to investigate the SAM stimulons. First of all, the exogenous introduction of SAM into cell culture medium induced and increased actinorhodin production. Secondly, 2-D gel profile analysis between the cytosolic protein from control and SAM-treated Streptomyces coelicolor was performed to identify up- and down-regulated spots, and the spots were clustered into several subgroups. With this result, we think that SAM is one of the essential molecules in the regulation of secondary metabolism in Streptomyces. |
