Oil and gas industries use gas hydrate inhibitors to manage multiphase flow through pipelines. In this study, we examined the influence of various inhibitor mixtures as thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors and kinetic hydrate inhibitors to elucidate synergism of each mixture combination. We used dual function inhibitors as well as conventional inhibitors. Although hydrate phase equilibria showed no significant synergistic effect with various inhibitor mixtures, gas uptake results indicated that glycine + [BMIM][BF4] mixture hinders hydrate growth. Moreover, powder X-ray diffraction demonstrated that inhibitors do not affect the structure of CH4 hydrate. Furthermore, differential scanning calorimeter revealed that glycine + [BMIM][BF4] mixture gave higher sub-cooling temperature and lower heat of dissociation (∆Hd) when compared to PVCap. These experimental results will provide the guideline to understand the hydrate inhibition mechanism regarding the synergism of hydrate inhibitors. |
