Applications of micro- or nanocapsules containing active compounds have become of increasing importance in the pharmaceutical, medical, foods, cosmetics, and agricultural industries due to their advantages of greater convenience, improved physicochemical stability, and controlled release. It is essential for the microcapsules to control pore size distributions in order to proper application in drug delivery systems (DDS). In general, the pore size distributions of silica-based particles are in the micro or mesoporous ranges. However, the pore size ranges are not suitable for macromolecular proteins with nanometer scale such as DNA, insulin, albumin, etc. In this study, we report the facile approach for synthesis of the silica microcapsules with macroporous structures by a combination of phase separation and O/W emulsion process in a Silanes/Span60/Oil system. The ratio of Silanes/Span60/Oil played an important role on controlling the properties of the microcapsules. The spherical microspheres (10 ~ 100 ㎛) with pore size distributions of 50 ~ 1,000 nm were obtained. The properties of the microcapsules were investigated by BET, Image analyzer and SEM. |
