Recently, the interest on anisotropic microgels has increased in the nano engineering field. In this study, we prepared anisotropic microgels having superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION). By attaching a magnet onto a particle prep vessel, we can arrange SPION inside microgels. We successfully manufactured anisotropic microgels less than 300 um by a conventional emulsion polymerization method in an effective manner. We confirmed that the particles reacted external magnetic fields and the narrow size distribution of particles. The anisotropic microgels containing SPION are expected to be used as micro-sized magnetic stirring bars. The particles can be applied into microfluidic devices or cleaning filtration nano-membrane against fouling. |
