Concentrated efforts have been made to combine materials science with four major ‘NBIC’ (nano-bio-info-cogno) convergence technologies, each of which is currently progressing at a rapid rate: (a) nanoscience and nanotechnology; (b) biotechnology and biomedicine, including genetic engineering; (c) information technology, including advanced computing and communications; (d) cognitive science, including cognitive neuroscience. In the first study, chemically well-defined bio core@nano shell hybrid, which consists of rationally designed DNA molecules core and spherical inorganic nanoshell, was prepared via soft-chemical route. Through NBIC convergence, the nano-convergence materials were addressed to be potentially applicable to nano-forensics, molecular traceability, and Avatar DNA system. In the second study, we described in vivo and in vitro delivery system for siRNA assembled with biodegradable inorganic particles conjugated with cancer-targeting ligands, and achieved 3.0‐fold higher suppression of tumor volume in animal experiment. |
