제목 Hierarchical Studies of Biomaterials by Synchrotron X-ray Techniques:X-ray Microscopy, Scattering and Absorption Studies
초록 The extraordinary biomechanical properties found in bone, dentin, scale, tendons, and other mineralized biological materials have been investigated by many researchers over the last several decades. Since those properties are closely bound up with their structures and frequently one level of structural organization is nested into another lager structure, the thorough understanding of hierarchical structures ranging from angstroms to millimeters is greatly important. Among many biological materials the fish scale is a quite tempting subject because of highly ordered three-dimensional structure composed of hydroxyapatite mineral phase and collagen fibers. In this talk, the detailed hierarchical structures of fish scales will be presented by using various synchrotron X-ray techniques: X-ray microscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS).
