Structural evolutions of Nylon6/Montmorillonite nanocomposites during zone-drawing of the pressed film were studied using small- and wide- angle X-ray scattering at a Pohang Synchrotron X-ray source, TEM, birefringence and DSC. The structure of Nylon6/Montmorillonite nanocomposite is composed of four components such as a- and g-forms of nylon6 crystal, amorphous nylon 6 and clay sheets. The structural relationship between those four components is essential to understanding the origin of enhancement of mechanical properties in Nylon6/Montmorillonite nanocomposite. In this study, the change of the relative orientation between clay sheets and two nylon crystals and the crystallization of each crystalline phase during zone-drawing and annealing was monitored using three-dimensional X-ray scattering. These structural changes observed from X-ray scattering well explained the morphological change studied by TEM experiment and lead to understanding the physical properties such as birefringence and melting behavior. |
