The growing need for polyurethane flexible foam across the world boosts the demand for toluene diisocyanate (TDI) market. The unwanted side products generated during TDI production process causes a decrease of the overall reaction efficiency. Model development with reliable kinetic parameter is essential for the optimization of the TDI reaction system, which was previously difficult due to the unknown kinetic parameters of side reactions. In this study, we develop a comprehensive 3-dimensional reactor model with verified kinetic parameters to simulate TDI reaction process. Valid kinetic parameters were used to describe the main reactions, and the parameters for the side reaction were estimated from the process data. Effects of process variables on the reaction performances were investigated, and optimal operating strategies for TDI reactors were derived based on the comprehensive reactor model. |
