Synthesis and Characterization of PMMA-b-PBMA Diblock Copolymers via Thiol-Lactam Initiated Radical Polymerization |

This talk demonstrates the synthesis of structurally well-defined Poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-Poly(n-butyl methacrylate) (PMMA-b-PBMA) diblock copolymers by applying Thiol-Lactam Initiated Radical Polymerization (TLIRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n-butyl methacrylate. Initially, a macroinitiator PMMA having thiol as Change Transfer Agent was prepared using dodecyl mercaptan (R-SH) and butyrolactam (BL) system. Subsequently, the addition of n-butyl methacrylate monomer in toluene solution of PMMA-CTA efficiently gave PMMA-b-PBMA diblock copolymer. The GPC results suggest that the block copolymer was resulted with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. It is highly expected that this simple CRP protocol will find enormous potentialities in both academia and industrial applications. |
