Tactile sensing and nociception are two key features of human skin which operate independently in different pressure regimes because mechanoreceptors perceiving tactile sensing and nociceptors perceiving nociception work independently in human skin. Recently, pressure sensors based on different transduction mechanism exhibit superior performances, but a direct identification of different sensory modalities (tactile sensation and nociception) is still lacking in the single active material. In this talk, inspired by human mechanosensory system, we demonstrate a flexible, dual mode piezocapacitive pressure sensor with transparent graphene electrodes and self-aligned ionic liquids. At low pressure regime, the air trapped at the interface of two electrodes acts like a dielectric and at high pressure regime, the self-aligned ionic liquids act as a dielectric, effectively leading to two different working mechanisms in a single device. |
