Thermally Rearranged(TR) Poly(benzoxazole-co-amide) Membranes for Hydrogen Separtion |

In this study, thermally rearranged poly(benzoxazole-co-amide) (TR-PBOA) membranes were prepared through thermal cyclization reaction of poly(o-hydroxyamide-co-amide)s (PHAAs). The physical properties, membrane processability, and gas permeation property of the polymer materials were controlled by varying the ratio of diamine moiety. Moreover, thermal rearrangement process was affected by the ratio of diamine moiety. By adjusting the thermal rearrangement condition, the best H2/CO2 selectivity among the TR polymers was obtained. The high H2 selectivity was from the rigid polymer structures in the copolymer which induce efficient packing density of polymer chain. In addition, both permeability and selectivity of H2 over CO2 increased at the high temperature due to the higher activation energy for H2 permeation. The highest gas separation performance was 26.8 Barrers of H2 permeability and 8.0 of H2/CO2 selectivity measured at 210 °C. |
