Monoolein (MO) in water forms a lamellar structure, an inverted hexagonal phase, or a bicontinuous inverted cubic phase. Since the cubic phases are biocompatible and biodegradable, they could be used as drug delivery vehicles. In this study, cubic phases containing poloxamer gels were prepared by hydrating MO using the polymer solution. Poloxamer gel composed of P 407(15%, w/w) and P 188(15%, w/w) in cubic phase. The cubic phase was thermo-sensitive in terms of release. The poloxamer gel in the water channels and lipid matrix of cubic phases will take a sol form or a gel form, depending the thermo in surround. As a result, diffusion through the water channels and lipid matrix would be varied in a thermo-dependent manner. |
