Graphene is a 2D carbon materials with sp2 bonded honeycomb structure. It can absorb aromatic drugs through pi - pi stacking on the graphitic domain. Titanium is a typical implant metal material which shows high specific strength, corrosion resistance and excellent biocompatibility. In this work, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was coated on Ti13Nb13Zr alloy and dexamethasone (Dexa) was loaded on graphitic domain of RGO via pi - pi stacking. After characterization of RGO coated Ti alloy (RGO-Ti), pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cell was cultured on Dexa loaded RGO-Ti, RGO-Ti and Ti. After a week, facilitated osteoblast differentiation was observed on Dexa loaded RGO-Ti compared to other groups. Enhanced osteoblast differentiation was confirmed by Alizarin red staining, Alkaline phosphatase activity test, immunocytochemistry and real-time PCR. Taken together, we could confirm the feasibility of RGO-Ti for further dental implant applications. |
