Ag-decorated TiO2 nanofibers (Ag@TiO2 NFs) were synthesized by reducing Ag ions chemically onto the surface of electrospun TiO2 nanofibers. The prepared Ag@TiO2 NFs were coated with SiO2 by using PVP as coupling agent for protecting corrosion of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) by I-/I3- electrolyte. The fabricated Ag@TiO2 NFs showed a synergistic effect of light scattering and localized surface plasmons, resulting in an enhanced light absorption. Moreover, a photoanode composed of Ag@TiO2 NFs incorporating TiO2 NPs increased light harvesting without considerably sacrificing dye absorption. The power conversion efficiency increased from 6.8 to 8.7% for a 10 μm-thick film, that is, 28%. These results suggest that Ag@TiO2 NFs are promising materials for enhanced light absorption in dye-sensitized solar cells. |
