제목 The Influence of Alkoxy Chain Attached to NLO Chromophores on Electro-optic Response
초록 To observe an EO effect, it is necessary to break the centrosymmetry by applying an external electric field, resulting in an orientation of dipolar NLO molecules. The refractive index changes are induced by the Polkels effect and molecular reorientation effect.[1-3]To observe the molecular orientational enhancement, a high rotational mobility of the chromophore in the host polymer is required. The alkoxy chains attached to NLO chromophore are expected to allow the free volume to each chromophore, which will result in the fast orientation behavior under applied electric field. For this purpose, we synthesized 4-pipridionobenzylidene-malononitrile (PDCST)derivatives whith varying alkoxy chains attached to benzene as π- conjugated bridge and investigated the influence of alkoxy chains attached to chromophore on electrooptical response time. To characterize the electro-optic behavior of a given chromophore, the standard two crossed polarizers setup was used. The polarization axes of analyzer and polarizer are set to 45 and –45 with respect to incident plane, respectively, and the sample was tilted by 45 from the propagation direction of the probe beam.
