제목 | Synthesis of graphene through microwave-assisted exfoliation. |
초록 | Graphene, two-dimensional honeycomb carbon atom structure, has been extensively studied for its synthesis, physical characteristics, and device applications. Although various methods have been developed to synthesize graphene, chemical exfoliation has attracted extensive attention as one of the most advantageous methods for mass production at a low cost. It is common to use thermal inflation to exfoliate graphene oxide layers. Alternative exfoliation method can be utilizing microwave assistance. Microwave treatment provides not only highly uniform irradiation to graphene oxide, but also ~70~80% shorter processing time than conventional thermal treatment. Moreover, microwave equipment is simple and easily expands to mass production. In this presentation, we report graphene synthesis through microwave-assisted exfoliation. Natural graphites (99.0%, average size 20 and 200 μm) were oxidized using H2SO4 and KMnO4 via Hummer’s method, filtered, and performed microwave irradiation (on time: 7sec; off time: 10sec). For 200 μm graphite, 4 hr microwave irradiation showed several layer graphene formation. With increasing microwave irradiation time to 8 hr, the thickness of graphene layer gradually decreased. For 20 m graphite, several layer graphene was synthesized even for 10 min microwave irradiation. We will further discuss effects of graphite size and microwave irradiation on graphene synthesis. |
