Rationally grafting unique functional groups at specific sites at molecular level offers access to a variety of the chemical and physical properties of the resultant metallosupramolecules. Herein, we report a strategy to achieve a new type of amine-functionalized cobalt (Co) triple-stranded helicate (NH2-CoTSH), Co8(PDA)6(AIP)3(DMF)2(H2O)4 (1) (PDA = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, AIP = 5-aminoisophthalic acid, DMF = dimethylformamide). In addition, considering the formation of higher-order assembly structures with 1 as supramolecular modules is strongly governed by the ability of deprotonated carboxylate groups on 1 to coordinate to extra cobalt ions. On this basis, a higher-order assembly polymeric structure, [Co8(PDA)6(AIP)3(DMF)6] . [Co(H2O)3])n (2), can be obtained. Moreover, the use of different transition metals (Ni2+) in the place of Co2+ also leads to the isomorphous supramolecule, Ni8(PDA)6(AIP)3(DMF)6 (3), which is structurally similar to that of 1. |
