The electronic structure of tropone has special attention in the material science. Tropone can be used in the low bandgap conjugated polymers due to the stabilization of the resonance in donor-acceptor polymer networks. Moreover, tropone can be applied as sensory materials, based on aromaticity switching by protonation. Tropone moiety exhibits aromatic and nonaromatic structures in the polymer backbone, and it can directly affect the electronic delocalization of the polymer. In this study, we have designed and synthesized various types of tropone-containing monomers and polymers, and investigated their morphology, optical and electrochemical properties by atomic force microscopy (AFM), UV-vis spectrometer (UV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV), respectively. |
