The fibrous tubular scaffolds with controllable fiber orientations are fabricated by electrospinning with rotating drum in the presence of a parallel or perpendicular conductive wire. A higher rotating speed of the drum resulted in a thinner diameter of the fibers and a more aligned fibrous structure. The parellel or perpendicular orientations of fibers in the tubular scaffolds are achieved using an perpendicular or parellel conductive wire, respectively. Therefore, a tubular scaffold with different algined directions at their inner and outer surfaces can be obtained by adjusting the rotating speed and design of the conductive wire. The fibrous morphology with specific orientation direction affect the cell adhesion and strech during culture on the fibrous caffolds. The tubular scaffods with controlled fiber orientations can be used in tissue engineering, espeically for artificial vessels and nerve conduits. |
