Nanocrystals of sodium tungsten oxides have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method at temperature of 200℃ for 24 hours in the presence of poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS). The varieties of their morphology have been observed. Diameters and lengths of nanorods were significantly varied in ranges of 10 to70 nm and 100 nm to 1 μm, respectively, depending on PSS concentrations. The nanocrystals of sodium tungsten bronzes were transformed to near infrared shielding materials upon reduction, thus suggesting applications for electrochromic devices, solar cells, and gas sensors.
