Aggregation enhanced two-photon absorption dyes for in vivo imaging |

In this work we are investigating the synthesis, characterization and application of aggregation enhanced two-photon absorption (TPA) dyes. This non-linear effect can be used for many applications as for example 3D-microfabrication, bioimaging, etc. Typically near infrared light for two-photon absorbing behavior is used for excitation of organic chromophores. Biological tissue show high transmissions in these wavelengths which renders TPA based bioimaging ideal for in vivo monitoring. Using J-Aggregation and Eximer-Formation it is possible to gain aggregation enhanced fluorescence. Based on this knowledge, our research goal is to synthesize new four TPA dyes with high efficiency based on a 3,3'-(thiophene-2,5-diyl)bis(2-(4-bromphenyl)acrylonitrile) core using different electron-donor groups and apply these within PEGylated phospholipid nanomicelles for in vivo monitoring of cancer cells. |
