Self-assembly patterns as a function of the Benzene tricarbonyl (BTC) core assisted unidirectional intermolecular interactions to arrange into multi-dimensional nano architectures has attracted great deal of interest. Moreover, introducing polymerizable macrocyclic diacetylenes (MCDA) can self-assemble into vertical stacks to form symmetric columnar architecture. In the investigation described herein, we synthesized triple-columnar structure, BTC-MCDA, by coupling BTC with MCDA via ester-linkage. Self-assembled BTC-MCDA afforded nano-fibrous structures, and these nano-fibers undergo facile UV polymerization to generate corresponding rigid polydiacetylene structures. In addition, interesting optical properties were obtained by strategizing structural modification of macrocyclic diacetylenes by varying number of carbon spacer. |
