In this work, we developed hydrogels from cartilage acellularized matrix (CAM) by using diselenide based NIR responsive water soluble crosslinker. At first, CAM was functionalized with tetrazine, and then CAM solution was mixed with various feed ratios of NIR responsive crosslinker. The synthesis of materials was confirmed by NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and ATR-FTIR. The hydrogels were assessed for their mechanical properties, swelling ratio, drug loading/release behavior, and cytotoxicity studies. The data from these experiments indicated that the synthesized hydrogels are non-toxic to tested cell-lines and drug release from these hydrogels can be triggered upon exposure to NIR. Overall the data suggest that NIR-responsive reversibly crosslinked hydrogels are promising candidates as joint/tissue fillers and stimuli-responsive drug delivery, and regenerative medicine. |
