Preparation and evaluation of hydrogels containing Ulmus davidiana var. japonica extracts by gamma-ray irradiation |
초록 |
Ulmus davidiana var. japonica (UD) has been used as an oriental remedy for the treatment of urination disorders, skin inflammation, and so on. To extract the active ingredient from the root bark of UD, a hot water extraction method was used. The UD was dissolved in hot distilled water, filtered with whatman paper, and precipitated with ethanol. A cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was carried out to evaluate the cytotoxicity of the UD extracts using L929 cell lines. Also, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), glycerol and UD extracts were mixed and irradiated using gamma-ray at 25-50 kGy (10 kGy/h dose rate) to prepare UD hydrogels. The physical properties including the gel fraction, swelling behavior, and gel strength of the UD hydrogels were measured as a function of the content (wt%) of the UD and evaluated for application as an ulcerated wound dressing. |
