A new class of ionic polyacetylenes has been synthesized via the spontaneous polymerization of ethynylpyridines by using the functional alkyl halides. Here, we prepared new ionic polyacetylenes with pyrrole functionality via the uncatalyzed polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine using the alkyl halides with pyrrole group. These polymers were completely soluble in such organic solvents as DMF, NMP, and DMSO. The X-ray diffraction data on polymer powders revealed that the polymers are mostly amorphous. |
