The NRTL model is good for the VLE computation of strongly non-ideal systems, and its parameters are eagerly pursued by the field engineers in the design of separation processes handling the non-ideal systems. The distribution of the deviation between the experimental and estimated values is examined to indicate inadequacy of the application of common optimization techniques to the parameter estimation of the model, and a two-step procedure of the parameter estimation from the experimental VLE data is presented here. The effectiveness and stability of the proposed procedure are investigated by applying the procedure to various non-ideal systems. The gradients of activity coefficient are computed from the derived derivatives for the simplicity and stability of the parameter estimation. The estimation results are compared with those in the reference, and indicate that the proposed procedures are good for the model parameter estimation for the non-ideal systems. |
