Ferroelectric Poly(vinylidene fluoride) by vacuum assisted casting |
초록 |
Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is a ferroelectric polymer with unique properties that finds use in a wide range of electromechanical and medical devices. The all-trans oriented polar β-crystalline phase of PVDF finds wide applications because of its spontaneously switching C-F dipoles under the influence of external electric current, heat and mechanical stress. Thus, there is considerable interest among researchers to find a suitable method for the preparation of PVDF exhibiting polar β-phase. In the present investigation, we have prepared the ferroelectric β-crystalline phase of PVDF by the conventional vacuum-assisted solution-casting process. The thermal properties of the resultant PVDF films were assessed using differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic FT-IR studies carried out as a function of temperature. The piezoelectric properties of the samples were also assessed using appropriate techniques and the results are reported in detail here. |
