Soluble polynorbornene with 9,9’-(1,3-phenylene)bis-9H-carbazole (mCP) side group was efficiently synthesized by vinyl addition polymerization of mCP-functionalized norbornene monomer using Pd(II) catalyst in combination with 1-octene chain transfer agent. The polymer shows high thermal stability with high decomposition (Td5>440°C) and glass transition (Tg>268°C) temperatures. When the polymer was incorporated into the emissive layer as the host doped with various concentration of FIrpic (7∼13wt%) through solution process, all the devices emitted nearly identical blue phosphorescence. Among the devices based on the polymer host, 10 wt%-doped device displayed the best performance with power efficiency of 3.0 lm W-1 and external quantum efficiency of 4.0% at a luminance of 1000 cd m-2. In particular, 10 wt%-doped device is considered to be the best performing device among the polymeric rivals. Details of synthesis, characterization, and host properties of polymer will be discussed. |
