제목 Effect of Viscosity Ratio on Fibrillation of TLCP/Polyester Binary Blends
초록 Melt blends of thermotropic liquid crystal polymers (TLCPs) with flexible thermoplastic polymers have been utilized in various industrials fields because of their potential application to high performance polymers with high mechanical properties, excellent thermal stability, and good processability. The major advantages of these polymer blends are that TLCP can act as a reinforcing agent and processing aids simultaneously. The fibrillation of TLCP in the melt blends can be influenced by various factors such as TLCP contents, composition ratio of the blends, the characteristics of component polymers and their compatibility, the viscosities of component polymers and their viscosity ratio, interfacial tension, processing condition, and shear rate. The viscosity ratio of the dispersed phase to matrix phase is an important factor to control the morphology in the blends. In this research, binary blends based on two types of polyesters having different intrinsic viscosity and TLCP were prepared by melt blending, and the effect of viscosity ratio on the fibrillation of the prepared binary blends. were investigated. More and smaller TLCP fibrils were obtained at high shear rate, and the lowering viscosity ratio of TLCP to polyester was the origin of viscose force necessary for the fibrillation of TLCP in binary blend systems.
