Efficient delivery of hydrophilic drugs from lipophilic-vitamin loaded pHEMA-hydrogel contact lenses for treatment of glaucoma |
| 초록 |
Therapeutic contact lenses which are ophthalmic drug loaded contact lenses have been widely studied as ocular drug delivery vehicles due to the high degree of bioavailability and release duration time of drugs at the cornea and less side effects in the treatment of eye diseases especially for glaucoma, compared to drug delivery via eye drops. Recently several contact lens systems have been developed to achieve increase of drug uptake and release duration. Incorporation of vitamin E into the silicone hydrogel contact lenses was reported to significantly increase the drug release duration from a few hours to several days. However, incorporation of vitamin E into pHEMA hydrogel contact lenses have not been studied. In this study we reveal the effect of vitamin E on hydrophilic drugs uptake to and release from pHEMA hydrogel contact lenses. Also we propose use of other lipophilic materials which are non-toxic on the cornea expecting to indicate same effects as vitamin E. |
