Since its starting in the 19th century, modern food packaging has made great advances as results of global trends and consumer preferences. These advances are oriented to obtain improved food quality and safety. Moreover, with the move toward globalization, food packaging requires also longer shelf life, along with the monitoring of safety and quality based upon international standards. The primary purpose of packaging is to protect the product from the outside environment, such as the effects of gases, water(vapor), odors, micro-organisms, dust and etc. These effect has an adverse effect on food packaging such as deterioration and oxidation of the packaged food. In this work, we have tried to improve of barrier properties using boric acid as crosslinking agent. The polymer coating layer was prepared to reduce the oxygen affinity and the water affinity by crosslinking between PVA matrix and boron. |
