Novel Robustness Measure for Chemical Process Design |

A systematic way to generate robust solutions using the robust partial mean model was presented in this study. The parameter range for the robust partial mean model that gave meaningful economic robust solutions was investigated with theoretical observation and explained with clear graphical representation on parameter value space. Based on the analysis of the parameter range, it is proved that the robust solutions obtained from the robust partial mean model can include all the robust solutions obtained from the robust worst-case model. Three meaningful ranges of the parameter of the robust partial mean model are investigated to determine the proper target value. The worst-case cost obtained by worst-case analysis is recommended as the target value that can produce both robust and economical solutions, as well as theoretical point of view based on ordering. The proposed model was applied for chemical reactor system and showed good performance.
