Photochemistry for Photoalignment of Liquid Crystals Based on Novel Soluble Polyimide |

We have reported a study on photoalignment effect of chloromethylated polyimide film exposed by polarized UV light. By introducing chloromethyl group, polyimide is more sensitive to UV light to induce photoalignment with high thermal and photo stability. In this study, we concerned on photochemistry of chloromethylated polyimide film by exposed to UV light. Weight loss and thickness change of polyimide films exposed to UV light were found to be contributed to photolysis of polyimide. UV sources with various wavelengths have been used to illustrate polyimide with various substitution ratios of chloromethyl group.
