Synthesis of hydrophobic MCM-41 |

The pure silica MCM-41 molecular sieve was synthesized with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the source of silica, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a template under hydrothermal condition. Several synthesis parameters such as temperature, the ratio of Si and surfactant, aging time and pH adjustment of the mixture were investigated for the optimum preparation process. The hydrophobic MCM-41 was obtained by introducing trimethylsilyl to MCM-41 by refluxing the mixtures of trimethylsilyl chloride ((CH3)3SiCl) and hexamethyldisiloxane (((CH3)3Si)2O) with MCM-41 for overnight under N2. The dried products were comparatively characterized using XRD, TEM and adsorption isotherms of nitrogen. |
