제목 Rapid and facile synthesis of carbon encapsulated copper nanoparticles
초록 Copper (Cu) nanoparticles, due to their relatively low cost and high electrical conductivity, exhibit high potential for replacing the noble metal nanoparticles for various applications. However, bare Cu nanoparticles exposed to air at room temperature will be oxidized to form Cu2O within several hours. Therefore, the problem of their poor oxidation resistance must be resolved before they can be applied into practice. Many processes have been developed in attempt to produce carbon encapsulated metal nanoparticles as major products including modified carbon arc discharge, microwave irradiation in an ionic liquids, chemical vapor deposition, and thermolysis of organometallic compound. We have synthesized graphitic carbon encapsulated cooper nanospheres by a sonochemistry method using octyl ether and copper acetylacetonate. The particles were characterized in detail by transmission electron microscope (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric scanning calorimetry. The encapsulated copper nanoparticles were about 200 nm in diameter with graphitic carbon shells. The outside graphitic carbon layers effectively prevented unwanted oxidation of the copper inside.
