Effect of Transmittance on Luminous Efficiency of Phosphor-in-Glass in LED packaging |

The transmittance of glass encapsulants for phosphor-in-glass (PIG) is considered as a factor affecting the luminous properties in LED packaging and closely related to the pore features of sintered glass plate. The purpose of this study is to establish correlations between porosity of the sintered glass plate and optical properties of PIG. The effect of transmittance on luminous properties is investigated according to sintering temperature and holding time. The transmittance, luminous properties and porosity was measured by UV-visible, integrating sphere and scanning electron microscope, respectively. The highest value in transmittance of glass plates is 48% at 550nm and luminous efficacy of PIG is71.7lm/W at same sintering condition. The luminous efficacy of the PIG is increased with increasing transmittance while the porosity has decreased. The luminous properties such as the emission intensity and the color coordinates (x, y) are also influenced by the transmittance of the PIG. The glass transmittance is the effective way to enhance the luminous efficiency of PIG. |
