Methyl N-phenyl carbamate (MPC) can be synthesized by the reaction between aniline and dimethylcarbonate, a non-phosgene method. In this study, this methoxycarbonylation reaction was conducted using Zeolitic Imidazole Framework-7 (ZIF-7) as a catalyst. Four types of ZIF-7 were synthesized from zinc precursors, including Zn(OAc)2, ZnCl2, Zn(NO3)2, and ZnBr2, and benzimidazole as a linker. The catalytic activity of the prepared catalyst was compared by conducting methoxycarbonylation reaction at 190°C for 2 h. the result showed ZIF-7 prepared from Zn(OAc)2 had the highest activity, where aniline conversion and MPC yield were 97.53% and 84.42%, respectively. This catalytic activity was maintained during 4 times reuses. The catalyst was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) to observe the changes of chemical structure, morphology, and crystallinity before and after reaction. |
