Electrical and mechanical stimuli exist in theform of action potentials and muscle contraction in native skeletal musclemicroenvironment. Here, a cell culture system is developed that can mimic thein vivo microenvironment and provide these stimuli human umbilical cord bloodmesenchymal stem cells (hUCBMSCs). A thermosensitive, stretchable, andpiezoelectric substrate (TSPS) is fabricated by polydimethylsiloxanespin-coating of aligned ZnO nanorods and subsequent poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)grafting on the polydimethylsiloxane surface. Cyclic stretching and bending ofTSPS provided pulsatile mechanoelectrical cues to hUCBMSCs, resulting insignificant promotion of myogenic differentiation and muscle regenerativeeffect when transplanted in vivo. |
