This study introduces a biocellulose nanofibrils (BCNFs)-based skin adhesive, which have great potential for water retention improvement of skin. The essence of our approach is that the BCNFs having bactenecin 7 (Bac7) peptide interacts with cell membrane through hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions. The Bac7 was coupled with the carboxylate of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO)-oxidized BCNFs to form amide bond. Then, the adhesion force between Bac7-conjugated BCNFs and porcine skin was characterized by using the axial rheometer measurement under wet conditions. Finally, we demonstrated that our skin adhesives exhibited water retention improvement through MRI imaging, thus promising a variety of biological applications in the field of dermal therapy. |
