제목 Effect of Silane Coupling Agents on Interfacial Adhesion Strength of Carbon Fibers-reinforced Polarized-Polypropylene Matrix Composites
초록 In this work, the silane coupling treatments of carbon fiber surfaces were carried out to improve the mechanical interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and polarized thermoplastic matrices. The surface properties of silane-treated carbon fibers were characterized using a contact angle, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result, it was showed that the both a polar and a dispersive component of carbon fibers in surface free energy significantly increased after surface treatments. The mechanical interfacial adhesion strengths between the modified carbon fibers and polarized-polypropylene in the composites were also dramatically enhanced, indicating that the silane coupling treatments led to the enhanced surface free energy of the carbon fibers, resulting in good mechanical interfacial adhesion between a polar-filler and a polar-matrix in this composite system.
