제목 Influence of molecular structure of functionalized polymer on crystal growth rate and morphology of CaCO3 analyzed through optical microscope coupled with microfluidic device
초록 CaCO3 is one of the most abundant biominerals present in the nature. However, Little is known about the CaCO3 crystallization pathway. Challenge is to link macromolecule-crystal interaction to changes in growth mechanism, shape, and kinetics. Understanding the mechanism of their formation envision a meaningful step towards designing biomineral-based advanced functional materials.

Herein, We designed several functionalized hyperbranched polymer (HBP) which affects the formation of CaCO3 crystalline structure. Based on the confined condition in microfluidic system, we have demonstrated effect of functionalized polymer additives on the crystallization pathway. In particular, through an optical microscope combined with a microfluidic device, the pattern and rate of initial stage crystal growth and the morphology of the final crystal phase will be statistically calculated and derived in situ.
