제목 Media optimization of fungal (Trametes orientalis) mycelium mats for the development of eco-friendly materials
초록 Recently, various studies have been conducted to develop eco-friendly materials to replace animal skins. To produce eco-friendly fungal mycelium mat products, the growth rate and physical rigidity of fungal mycelium are important controllable factors. In this study, Tramtes orientalis, a mushroom strain with strong physical stiffness, was selected, and media and culture conditions for mycelium growth have been optimized. Four types of media were used to compare the growth rate and density of mycelium mat: a mixture of 80% oak sawdust and 20% rice bran (SAW), yeast malt broth (YMB), yeast malt agar (YMA) and nitrogen enriched YMA (NYMA). The media were filled in the petri dish. The mycelium grown in the YMB was finely pulverized using homogenizer and inoculated. After inoculated the mycelium, they were incubated in 26ºC and 80% humidity. As a result, SAW took almost 6 days for the mycelium to cover the substrate and relatively good density. NYMA showed faster growth rate and dense mats than YMB and YMA. Therefore, it could be determined that a better media for mycelium growth is SAW and NYMA. Many culture variables such as humidity and oxygen circulation were discussed also.
