제목 Development of immobilized-cell bioreactor for diesel oil desulfurization
초록 Two ceramic supports (Celite R-560 and Celite R-630), a granular active carbon (Zeocarbon), and a string-type support made of nylon fiber were tested for the immobilization of Gordonia nitida CYKS1. It was found that the fibrous support having hydrophobic surface was the most suitable biosupport. A modified type of air-lift bio-reactor was designed and used for the multiphase (gas - two liquid phases - solid) reaction of diesel oil desulfurization by cells immobilized on the fibrous support. The performance of the reactor was evaluated at different oil-to-water phase ratios. When the phase ratio was 10% (v/v), 87% of sulfur was removed from the diesel oil in 72 hours, reducing the total sulfur concentration from 500 mg l-1 to 66 mg l-1. As the phase ratio was increased, the desulfurization efficiency decreased. When the phase ratio was 20, 30, 40, and 50% (v/v), the desulfurization efficiency was 79, 76, 47, and 28%, respectively. The desulfurization rate, however, increased with the phase ratio.
