Air-operating conducting polymer actuators based on PEO and fluoro polymer composite films |

The new actuator operated in air by utilizing the conducting polymer (CP) is synthesized. CP actuators are generally built in a configuration where the internal layer is a solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) sandwiched between two CP layers (CP//SPE//CP). The Dimensions of CP change by the ion expulsion/inclusion movements during redox process. The porous fluoropolymer can be used as supporter to maintain the dimensional stability of SPE, and PEO is introduced to the pore in fluoropolymer. CP is embedded in SPE by the chemical oxidative polymerization, consequently resulting gradual dispersion of CP layer on SPE and enhanced interfacial characteristic. The prepared actuator without soakage of solvent has the effective bending actuation capability in air. |
