A New heat-compressionfabrication techniqueof Ionic Polymer Metal Composite(IPMC) Soaked with Ionic Liquid |

Recently, ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) soaked with the ionic liquid (IL) has drawn considerable attentions as one of the electro-active polymer actuators for a high air-operating stability. But this cannot efficiently actuated, because of (1) the serious damage of the metal-electrode during IL-soaking process and (2) the poor ion-conductivity by an insufficient uptake of IL. This study is intended to prepare the Nafion-based IPMC with both increased ir-operating capability and stability. We developed a novel fabrication method of IPMC/IL actuator by heat-compression of Nafion films, fully swelled with IL and effectively plated of platinum onto outer surface of film's stack. We observed that the prepared IPMC/IL has the superior performance compared with the other published results. |
