An Air-operating Conducting Polymer Actuator based on Novel Solid Polymer Electrolyte (SPE) |

A novel conducting polymer actuator was fabricated with SPE composed of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) as polymer electrolyte and porous poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane as the supporting material. The porous PVDF which was filled with PEO by photopolymerization exhibited enhanced dimensional stability compared to polymer electrolyte without supporting membrane, and the introduction of CP into SPE by chemical polymerization prevented the layers from delamination. Several factors were controlled to optimize the chemical polymerization conditions of pyrrole. The experimental results demonstrated that the synthesized actuator had effective bending actuation in air. |
