제목 Diaphragm with improved gas barrier properties for alkaline water electrolysis
초록 Alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is suitable for mass production of hydrogen owing to the low installation cost resulting from the absence of precious metal catalyst. Zirfon, a commercial porous membrane for AWE, has insufficient gas barrier property, demanding a need for the development of a large-area porous membrane with high ionic conductivity and low hydrogen permeability. In this study, we developed a diaphragm prepared from polysulfone(PSU)-ionic polymer blend and zirconia nanoparticles by non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. The resulting diaphragm exhibited higher gas barrier properties and lower membrane resistance than a diaphragm based on PSU alone. Finally, the diaphragm with the optimized composition showed about 50% higher current density than Zirfon in 1.825V.
