Controlled release properties of allopurinol incorporated functional mungbean starch_chitosan based multi-layer biomaterials |

This study focuses on the synthesis of functional MBS_CHS based multi-layer biomaterials for sustainable therapy. The first layer was prepared using chitosan (CHS), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and the second layer was prepared using mungbean starch (MBS), allopurinol (ALP) as the target drug, glycerol (GL) as a plasticizer. The prepared functional multi-layer biomaterials were characterized by FE-SEM and FT-IR. In addition, physical properties such as solubility and swelling behavior were investigated. Results of ALP release properties indicated that ALP release rate of multi-layer biomaterial was slower than single layer biomaterial. In addition, results of ALP release using artificial skin indicated that ALP was sustained release for 12 h. From the results, we suggest functional multi-layer biomaterals as a biomedical material for sustainable therapy of gout. |
